'TVRI' official implicated in graft

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Prosecutors are investigating an alleged graft case involving the head of East Kalimantan state television station TVRI, Asmuny S. Noor.

Asmuny is implicated in the embezzlement of the station's operational funds, which caused Rp 1.7 billion (US$178,900) in losses to the provincial administration.

After questioning on Wednesday, Asmuny said he was quizzed about the mechanism of the fund disbursement. "There were no questions about embezzlement," he said.

The case was reported by TVRI employees in early April, after they found irregularities in the purchase of relay broadcasting equipment and swelling operational costs last year. -- JP
