TV drama on founding fathers

JAKARTA: The Bung Karno Foundation (YBK), in cooperation with the Esthetics Science and Technology (SET) Foundation, which is led by noted film director Garin Nugroho, will produce sinetron (teleseries) on the country's founding fathers.

YBK chairman Guruh Soekarnoputra said over the weekend that the was plan aimed at preserving and developing the values of the founding fathers so that they would become guidelines for future generations.

"The values, ideals and commitment of the founders of Indonesia in fighting for independence, peace and national unity have to be passed on from one generation to the next," Guruh was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday.

Meanwhile, film director Garin Nugroho said 13 episodes would initially be produced involving noted actress and actors to attract young people.

"The TV series is expected to arouse the interest of the younger generation," he said.

Initially the foundation will produce sinetron on the lives of Sukarno, Mohammad Hatta and Sjahrir, with a duration of between 42 and 45 minutes.

Actors involved in the series include Anjasmara as Sukarno and David Chalik as Hatta.

Guruh, a son of Sukarno, said he expected to start broadcasting the series in June . --Antara
