Tutut, Titiek questioned over alleged graft case

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Two daughters of former president Soeharto, Siti Hardijanti "Tutut" Rukmana and Siti Hediati Harijadi or Titiek Prabowo, as well as Tutut's husband, Indra Rukmana, appeared at the Attorney General's Office on Monday for questioning in an investigation of possible corruption involving the construction of the Jakarta outer ring road.

The three of them were questioned as witnesses as they were commissaries of PT Cipta Marga Nusapala Persada, while the suspect is Djoko Ramiadji, director of PT Marga Nurindo Bakti.

The office had halted the investigation citing a lack of evidence to prove criminal wrongdoing, but in May, the case was reopened following the discovery of new evidence: a commercial paper issued by PT Hutama Jala, a joint venture between PT Cipta Marga Nusapala Persada and PT Marga Nurindo Bakti.

The commercial paper was issued to finance the Cawang-Tanjung Priok harbor toll road construction, reportedly cost roughly Rp 501 billion, in addition to the Rp 301 billion Pondok Pinang- Jagorawi toll road.

The commercial paper, however, failed to hit the market.

Tutut, accompanied by lawyer Amir Sjamsudin, arrived at the office at 10:15 a.m., while Indra at about an hour later and Titiek appeared at 2 p.m.

Tutut told reporters after her questioning lasted at about 6:45 p.m. that she was not involved in the alleged crime.

But she was reluctant to talk about the questioning.

"I don't know," she said.

In March, Tutut was questioned as a suspect in a corruption case over a US$306 million pipeline project involving state oil and gas company Pertamina. The Attorney General's Office, however, has not revealed the development of their investigation over the case.
