Trucks with heavy load kept off toll road

JAKARTA: Trucks weighing more than eight tons are no longer allowed to drive through the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, according to new regulation from toll road operator PT Jasa Marga.

"We ask trucks carrying wet sand piled high and driving at a slow speed to no longer use the toll road," Jasa Marga head of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road Tito Karim was quoted by Tempointeraktif on Tuesday.

He said that the trucks often caused traffic to slow to less than the required 60 kilometers an hour, and caused damage to the road.

A raid against these trucks will be conducted by Highway Police, Purwakarta and Karawang Police, together with the Ministry of Transportation until Jan. 19, 2006, at Cikopo, Kalihurip and East Karawang toll gates. --JP
