Trucks bring pollution

From Pelita

We, the residents of Central Depok II, are concerned over the
degradation of our environment caused by the heavy trucks laden
with soil and concrete rubble passing through in our area. The
trucks are supplying material for the construction of an
exclusive housing complex at a site nearby. The residents worst
affected by the problem live along Jl. Serimpi Raya, Jl. Pakarena
Raya and in Singosari.

The clouds of dust which float up into the air every time the
trucks pass through our area are polluting the environment. The
trucks are also causing damage to the roads because they were not
built to accommodate vehicles of such weight.

We are also worried that if those trucks keep on using the
already damaged roads that they will be unusable once the rainy
season starts. Many of us tend to believe that nobody will be
willing to take the responsibility for the damage, so the roads
are unlikely to be repaired.

Therefore, we appeal to the management of the "PD" real estate
company to order the drivers of their trucks to use other
alternative roads outside our residential area.

We also appeal to the Public Works Office to monitor the
construction of every project in the area so that their
activities do not cause problems for the local residents.

The residents should be protected from the businessman whose
greed inflicts environmental problems on the public.
