Trisakti's Pencak Silat Championship
The Indonesian traditional martial art pencak silat gives at least two benefits to students. First, by practicing it, students can maintain their physical fitness. Secondly, they can use it to defend themselves in emergency situations, such as crime attacks.
In order to promote the art's cultural heritage among students, Trisakti University and the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association will hold the National College Championships for Pencak Silat 2005 at Padepokan Pencak Silat at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta.
Hundreds of student athletes from across the country are expected to join the six-day event which will start on Aug. 8.
Aside from the martial arts competition, spectators at the event will be treated to musical performances and traditional dance. Door prizes are also on offer.
Want to test your muscle? Register your team with the committee's secretariat at Trisakti. There is a registration fee of Rp 100,000 per team.
