Trikomsel offers SMS service

JAKARTA (JP): Mobile phone distributor PT Trikomsel Citrawahana introduced on Tuesday Short Message Service (SMS), allowing cellular users to send and receive messages to and from three existing GSM operators, namely, Telkomsel, Satelindo, and Excelcomindo.

"Besides enabling people to send and receive messages, SMS subscribers could also receive information on leisure, sports, business, politics as well as send and receive e-mails," Trikomsel President and Chief Executive Officer Sugiyono Wiyono said in a media conference.

The SMS services called SMSOke include AMKMOke, to receive news reports; cinema schedule; information on music and entertainment, cafes and restaurants; and train and airplane schedules; KabarOke, for monitoring share prices and the rupiah's exchange rate; EmailOke, for sending and receiving e-mails; and KontakOke for sending and receiving messages.

Trikomsel Chief Marketing Officer Evy Soenaryo said the subscription fee is Rp 10,000 for the first 20 tokens and between Rp 10,000 and Rp 30,000 for additional tokens worth 50, 125, and 200.

Sugiyono said that he expects to have at least 60,000 subscribers by the end of the year, mostly high school and university students.

The service will be officially launched on Sept. 25 and the first 60,000 subscribers will receive 20 tokens free, Sugiyono said. (10)
