'Tribun Batam' hits Batam streets

BATAM, Riau Islands: The Tribun Batam daily, published by media giant PT Gramedia, hit newsstands on Wednesday in Batam city, heating up an already fierce newspaper competition.

There are already several newspapers published daily in Batam, including Sijori Mandiri, Batam Pos and Pos Metro.

The chief executive officer of Tribun Batam, Huri Yuli Edi, said his newspaper was not trying to crowd out other papers, but was simply providing an alternative source of information for the public.

On the first day of its publication, 30,000 copies of Tribun Batam were printed. The paper will be distributed to much of the Riau Islands province, including Tanjung Pinang, Lobam and Karimun regency. -- Antara
