Trekker's body missing on Mt. Slamet

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Rescue workers continued efforts to evacuate the bodies of four trekkers from Gadjah Mada University's nature lovers club from Mount Slamet on Friday.

"We've evacuated the bodies of Fauzan and Dodo while we're still trying to remove the remains of a girl named Iis alias Ismarlianti which is located at an altitude of 3,000 meters, close to the summit of the mountain," Muheri, a local coordinator of rescue workers at Bambangan post, said.

The body of a trekker named Masruhi which had been located a few days before, however, has gone missing.

"His remains have probably got washed away in a heavy downpour,' Muheri said.

Another trekker named Breges is still missing and his chances of survival are falling due to rough weather and lack of food supplies, he said.

"The man has been missing since Feb. 3. He doesn't have enough food supplies plus the cruel climate factor with thick fog, storm and rain which will make it almost impossible for him to survive," Muheri said.

The victims along with other climbers from Soedirman University in Purwokerto began to climb the 3,428-meter high Mt. Slamet on Feb. 3. (45/edt)
