Tree felling and pollution

If the trees left on Jl. Suprapto, Cempaka Putih, Central
Jakarta had any rights in this republic, they would file a suit
to the high court as witnesses of a violation: The felling of
other trees. So the court need not seek other evidence.

I wonder if the Jakarta authorities are too dull to consider
the impact of removing trees on the worsening air of the city and
the cost to offset its effect. To my knowledge, an increasing
degree of air pollution causes blood cancer and the poor will be
the first victims.

Similarly, I wonder if the authorities are too dull to think
over an important long-term solution for the traffic congestion
in Jakarta. All I know is that the busway construction has
eliminated lots of trees, which has caused the city air
temperature to rise and yet it has not done much to solve the
traffic jams.

Where are the activists from non-governmental organizations
that claim to be concerned about environmental degradation?
