Tree branches fall onto motorists

JAKARTA: Motorists passing down Jl. Wijiaya II No. 35 in Kemang on Saturday got a nasty surprise when tree branches began raining down on their vehicles, smashing windows and injuring a truck driver.

At least four cars and four motorcycles were damaged in the incident, while the truck driver, Ngatino, received lacerations to both hands after a branch shattered his windshield.

The cause of the falling branches was workers pruning an acacia tree on a golf course bordering the road.

Motorists said the workers had failed to put any warning signs around the location and seven of the eight motorists in the accident have reported the case to the South Jakarta Police.

"All motorists have asked for compensation (from the golf club) for the damage caused, owing to the management's negligence leading to the incident," officer First Insp. Rury Arya said. -- JP
