Travelers say no to onboard porno

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Passengers aboard the ferry serving the Kendari-Muna-Buton route in Southeast Sulawesi are up in arms over pornographic movies which were shown as onboard entertainment.

"I don't understand how the ship's owner could show such stuff. Don't they realize that there are children and teenagers on board?" said a passenger here yesterday.

As reported by Antara, ferries serving the route often show movies which display nudity.

A seaman working on the ferry, who asked not to be named, admitted that many of the films contained pornographic material but he claimed that the crew never intended to show such movies.

"The problem is that when they rent the movies at a local store in Kendari, they don't have time to check the contents," he explained.

"So it's not true that it was shown on purpose as a way to attract more passengers. We also have a moral responsibility to avoid things which violate our religion and culture," he said. (mds)
