Transvestites confound KPUD

PALANGKA RAYA, Central Kalimantan: The Central Kalimantan General Election Commission (KPUD) held a voter-education seminar on Sunday to inform the local community, including transvestites, about the particulars of the presidential election.

Lodewyk, the chairman of the KPUD, said that transvestites had to be included, and informed those at the seminar that there could be minor technical problems involving their gender.

"Election officials at the polling sites could face a problem identifying the gender of the transvestites when filling out election forms. In order to determine gender, we simply decided that if they were to wear women's clothes, we will consider them female on the form and vice versa," said Lodewyk. -- Antara
