Transmigrants need clean water

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Transmigrants at residential units V and VIII in Timika, Irian Jaya, are in need of clean water because of the poor quality of the wells in the area.

"The water in the wells provided cannot be used for drinking or cooking because it is grimy," said Wahid, a transmigrant from Subang, West Java, Antara reported.

He added that residents are calling on local authorities to provide filter drums to help purify the water. (mds)
