Train-truck crash kills six in Indramayu

INDRAMAYU, West Java: The Sawung Galing train hit a truck at Ploso Kerep village in Indramayu district on Monday, killing six people instantly and leaving four others injured.

Indramayu Police chief Adj. Comr. Eko Hadi said the train, which was en route to Jakarta, dragged the truck for several meters before completely crushing it.

The six dead victims were farmers identified as Kadsan, 25, Warta, 27, Darmin, 30, Lia, 20, Turini, 35, and Rastuni, 20. Most of them were residents of Karang Anyar village, Subang town, West Java.

Two others -- Kirasa, 27 and Wardi, 30, -- sustained severe wounds during the tragic accident, while Sukri, the truck driver, and Tarini, his co-driver, were slightly injured.

The crash was unavoidable after the ill-fated truck, carrying dozens of farmers, failed to heed a road sign warning of an unguarded railroad crossing ahead.

All the dead and injured victims were rushed to hospital for autopsies and medical treatment respectively. --Antara
