Traffic back to normal in Garut

GARUT, West Java: Traffic between Garut and Tasikmalaya regencies returned to normal on Saturday, following a landslide the previous day that hit Sukamaju subdistrict, Garut.

The landslide had left parts of a road in Sukamaju covered in mud, cutting access between Garut and Tasikmalaya.

The local government and residents worked to clear the road on Saturday morning and finished at noon the same day.

Two residents -- Entis, 65, and her grandson, Asep, 12 -- were killed in the landslide on Friday night. Six other residents were badly injured and were admitted to a hospital.

Heavy rainfall washed away the side of a hill in the area and the landslide flowed over several houses, including Entis' home, and across a local road. -- Antara
