Traffic accidents claim 1,101 lives

BANDUNG: A total of 1,101 people have died, 856 have been
seriously injured and 953 others have suffered minor injuries in
traffic accidents in the West Java province between January and
August this year.

Antara reported yesterday that 1,408 accidents have been
recorded here. Police spokesman Lt. Col. Istanto J. was quoted
as saying that the total was less than last year's figure.

In 1995, also between January and August, 1,438 accidents took
place, claiming 1,160 lives, injuring 77 seriously and causing
1,007 minor injuries. (swe)
