Traditional night market at the Hyatt
Traditional night market at the Hyatt
YOGYAKARTA: Inspired by other traditional night markets, the
Yogyakarta five-star Hyatt Regency Hotel is offering a Night
Market program every Saturday evening in an effort to promote
traditional arts and performances.
It features various traditional performances such as Jathilan
and Ramayana ballet, traditional handicrafts as well as local
cuisine like satay, soto Kudus (clear chicken soup), jagung bakar
(grilled corn), nasi gudeg (rice served with various side dishes)
and wedang jahe (ginger beverage).
Yogyakarta Hyatt Regency's PR Manager Wishnu Handoyo said the
hotel's Kemangi Bistro Poolside would be the site of the market,
as it was also designed in such a way as to give the nuance of
the real traditional night market. Visitors can have their food
and drink in a modest stall, known here as warung kopi, or enjoy
the night sitting on the floor in a lesehan style.
Those with supersticious inclinations, may also consult a
traditional fortune teller, who will be available. -- JP
