Traders to get new kiosks
JAKARTA (JP): Traders whose kiosks were ravaged by fire in Kebon Kembang market in Bogor, east of here, last month, will receive lottery numbers for temporary kiosks on Monday.
Bogor Mayor Eddy Gunardi will preside over the handing over of lottery numbers for traders' kiosks, Antara reported.
Lottery numbers for the allocations will also depend on the types of goods sold.
A fire ravaged the three-story Kebon Kembang market in Bogor, West Java on March 28, destroying the kiosks of more than 1,000 traders. Ten people were reported killed in the inferno.
Eddy, who visited the market yesterday, said that government officials caught levying money from traders attempting to secure their kiosks will be reprimanded.
"These kiosks were built and are to be given to traders free of any charges," Eddy said.
Traders earlier rejected the government's involvement in the total renovation of the gutted market for fear of being evicted when new kiosks were built and being unable to afford the high prices.
They said that, instead, they would prefer to rebuild their own kiosks.
Usman Zakaria, an assistant to the Bogor mayor in charge of building the temporary kiosks, said that 2,131 temporary kiosks are ready to be used.
Each kiosk, made of wood, has a floor surface of two square meters. (14)
