Tractors wins $3m order

JAKARTA (JP): PT United Tractors Pandu Engineering (UTE) has won contracts worth about US$3 million to supply transportation related components to GE Transportation System of the United States this year.

The company said in a statement on Monday the components to be supplied to GE Transportation System worldwide included mufflers, support platforms, snow plows, retaining tanks, water tanks and break levers.

GE, which previously bought most of its transportation-related components from Mexico, China and East Europe, began filing orders to UTE last year.

UTE, a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly listed United Tractors, also exports heavy equipment components such as forklift frames, forklift battery frame to Japan, the United States and several European countries.

Its total sales last year amounted to $15.3 million, including $5 million in exports.

Jack Fish, the general manager for global supply management at GE Transportation System, visited UTE's production site in West Java last week to inspect the company's manufacturing capability.

"We hope much bigger orders from overseas buyers in future years," UTE director Anis Sulistiadi said.(hen)
