Track and field meet draws 278 athletes

JAKARTA (JP): Some 278 athletes from 21 provinces will compete
in a two-day national track and field meet at Senayan Athletic
Stadium in Central Jakarta from April 30 to May 1.

B. Chaidir, secretary-general of the Indonesian Amateur
Athletics Association, said on Friday his organization would
evaluate the progress of the athletes during the meet, which
features 19 events for males and 18 for females.

He said those who qualified at the event would be invited to
prepare for the 20th Southeast Asian Games in Brunei Darussalam
in August.

The National Sports Council has already registered 36 athletes
and 14 coaches to take part in the Games. (ivy)
