Toyota plans electric push

TOKYO: Japanese car giant Toyota plans to sell an inexpensive two-seat electric car in major markets by the end of the year, the Japanese financial daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.

Toyota plans to market the cars, which will retail for US$11,600 to $13,900, in Japan, the United States and Europe.

The Toyota electric car will be 2.8m long and able to run about 100km on a single charge, the paper said.

Toyota has completed a small cell for the vehicle at Panasonic EV Energy, its joint venture with the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.
