Toy pistol used to intimidate

BOGOR (JP): Police arrested a repeat offender who threatened a street vendor with a toy pistol in front of the state treasury office on Jl. Juanda here on Friday.

Bogor Police chief Lt. Col. Edmon Ilyas said the suspect, identified as Victor Sui, 24, approached a stall in front of the office at 2:30 a.m. and asked the stall owner, Ade, for a Band- Aid.

"The suspect then pulled out a sword from his bag and stuck the Band-Aid on it in front of the vendor. Ade was frightened," Edmon said.

He said Ade tried to remove the sword from a table on which Victor had placed it. But Victor suddenly pulled out a pistol and pointed it at Ade, he said.

Police officers patrolling the area heard Ade scream for help, he said.

The officers seized the sword and a sickle from Victor, and the pistol which they later realized was just a toy, he said.

According to police records, Edmon has served three sentences in Paledang prison for theft, a drug-related crime and extortion. (24/jun)
