Tourists to Bromo warns of fires
SURABAYA, East Java: Tourists wishing to attend the Hindu Yadnya Kasada sacrificial rites on Mt. Bromo from Oct. 18 to Oct. 19, are advised to avoid routes through Malang and Lumajang because they pass through forest fire areas, a local official said yesterday.
The head of Central Java's Center for the Conservation of Natural Resources, Purwadi, suggested that tourists choose the routes through Probolinggo and Pasuruan.
To reach the destination on Mt. Bromo, those choosing the route through Pasuruan could pass through Wonogiri subdistrict, while those going through Probolinggo could pass Nagdisari subdistrict, he said. (swe)
