Tourists flock Tanjung Puting park

PALANGKA RAYA, Central Kalimantan: Some 3,000 foreign tourists visited Tanjung Puting National Park in the Kotawaringin district, Central Kalimantan between January and November this year, Antara reported yesterday.

"Tanjung Puting, one of the world's rehabilitation sites for orangutans, is the province's most attractive tourism object," head of the provincial tourism service, Erens Patianom, said here Saturday.

The tourists spent an average of three days in Tanjung Puting, he said.

According to him, more forest areas in the province will be turned into tourist attractions in 1997. Erens said his office was planning to hold a Borneo Festival next year to attract more people to the area. (swe)
