Tourist workers protest graft

DENPASAR, Bali: Hundreds of members of the Indonesian Tourism Workers Association (HPI) protested at the gubernatorial office on Wednesday calling for firm action against graft by officials in the industry.

"Many crucial problems have not been properly addressed, such as the presence of unlicensed guides and foreigners working illegally in the tourism industry," association chairman Made Sudira said.

"We want the governor to take stern action against officials who are involved, including those in the immigration and tourism offices," Made said.

After a two-hour protest the group dispersed peacefully. (zen/edt)
