Tourism school sends students to S'pore

JAKARTA: The Paramitha Tourism Vocational Junior High and High School has agreed to cooperate with a Singapore outsourcing firm, FCS Singapore, in a bid to develop tourism studies and to introduce the students to the global tourism industry.

The cooperative agreement became effective earlier this year.

"FCS Singapore, will be our partner in our on-the-job training program, where students will work as interns in some of the hotels, restaurants and cafes in Singapore," principal Waras Triningsih was quoted as saying by Antara on Wednesday.

Some of the hotels that will take on the first batch of 30 students are the Le Meridien, the Inter-Continental, Furama, Carlton, Marriott and Copthorne Harbour View. The restaurants and cafes include the Singapore Polo Club, Sanur, Katrina, Bon Food, Godaimond Japanese, Island Cafe and Maple Cafe.

During their first six-month internship in Singapore, the students will be provided with housing and a living allowance.

Last year the school sent 20 of its students to Malaysia for a similar program. -- JP
