Torajans pray for Soeharto

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: About 10,000 members of the Toraja ethnic group have held an early Christmas celebration, which they marked with a prayer for President Soeharto's health.

Antara reported that Reverend A.J. Anggui led the Mass to pray for Soeharto's strength and health so that he can carry out his state duties.

Tana Toraja Regent Tarsis Kodrat said the Christmas celebration became the right gathering time for all Torajans in Ujungpandang.

Mayor A. Malik B. Masry attended Friday's celebration. (swe)
