Tommy's lawyer released

JAKARTA: The police finally released Elza Syarief, the lawyer for Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, on Thursday afternoon after spending one month in the city police headquarter's detention cell.

Elza was arrested on May 6 on charges of bribing witnesses in Tommy's case to lie before the court.

Police spokesman Anton Bachrul Alam said that the police granted her request to delay her detention because her dossier had been completed.

"She also promised not to escape, not to repeat the offense, not to destroy the evidence and not to impede the legal process. She is also ready to be summoned at any time," Anton said.

Clad in black attire, Elza, who looked excited, told reporters how grateful she was to be granted a delay of her detention.--JP
