Tommy still wanted, Bagir says

JAKARTA: Chief Justice Bagir Manan revealed on Monday that Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, the youngest son of former president Soeharto, was still a wanted man despite the Supreme Court's decision to exonerate him of all graft charges.

"Tommy is still a wanted man, not a free man, as he failed to appear before the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office to sign the document on his release," Bagir told reporters at his office.

"He will also fail to gain access to several of his bank accounts that have been frozen," Bagir said.

In order to execute the court's controversial verdict which overturned an earlier conviction and 18-month sentence for Tommy, the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office summoned Tommy three times. The last summons was for last Friday. Tommy, however, failed to appear.

Commenting on Tommy's failure to show up, Bagir further said, "Tommy has never respected the Indonesian legal system." -- JP
