Tommy gets another sentence cut

SEMARANG: The youngest son of former president Soeharto, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, will likely get a sentence reduction of one month and 15 days on Idul Fitri.

"The remission will be given after Thursday morning prayers," said Soetomo Rahardjo, who heads the penitentiary division of the Central Java office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, on Monday.

This will be the second remission given to Tommy this year after his time was cut on Independence Day in August by nine months and 20 days.

Tommy was jailed to 15 years' imprisonment for his involvement in the murder of a judge. However, the Supreme Court later reduced his sentence to 10 years.

Special remission in the sentences of 2,721 prisoners in Central Java will be granted on Idul Fitri. -- Antara
