Toddler killed by car at Cilincing

JAKARTA (JP): A three-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday after being hit by a car in front of his house in Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Enraged by the accident, local residents pushed the car to a nearby field and set it ablaze, the child's father said.

Noto, 26, the father of the victim, Ichwan Ramadhan, said he was repairing a bicycle in front of his house when the accident took place.

The car, carrying six passengers and belonging to a garment factory, ran over the boy as he played on the side of the street.

Noto said that at first he did not think the victim was his child, but he was still enraged by the accident.

"I threw a stone at the car and punched the driver, who later ran away," Noto said.

"But I fainted when I saw that it was my boy Ichwan laying dead on the street," Noto said with tears in his eyes.

People from the neighborhood then forced the six passengers out of the car before pushing the vehicle to a nearby field and setting it on fire.

The driver was detained by the Cilincing Police after reporting the accident to the community head. (06)
