Toba Lake to host rowing c'ships

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Around 400 athletes from 19 provinces across the country will compete at the National Rowing Championships in Toba Lake in North Sumatra, which start on Saturday.

Chairman of the organizing committee Ahmad Idris said on Friday there are 36 golds on offer during the week-long event, which will feature rowing and canoeing competitions both in men's and women's categories.

The province is hosting the championships for the first time.

Minister of Culture and Tourism I Gede Ardika is scheduled to open the event. A traditional boat race vying for the Samosir Regent's trophy will spark the opening ceremony. --JP
