TNT express aims to be market leader

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

TNT Express Indonesia has announced it was now serving domestic shipment to 16 major cities across the country, making it the first carrier and logistic provider that offers an integrated international and domestic service in Indonesia.

"We are confident that we're able to apply our recognized high quality of international service into domestic service," said TNT Indonesian president director Collin Moran.

Moran told a press conference last week that its delivery services would enable customer to receive documents or packages before 9 a.m., 12 p.m., or close of business hours on the next day.

It's called "The Next Day" service.

In order to support such services, TNT had invested Rp 2 billion (US$210,000), which would be expanded to Rp 5 billion and Rp 10 billion in the next five to 10 years, Moran said as quoted as saying by Antara.

Separately, TNT sales and marketing director Andry Adiwinarso said that it would target more on corporate customers instead of retail or individual orders.

"But, individual customers are still welcome to use our services," he said, adding that the rate would lie in between the rates charged by foreign and local providers.

Australian-based Thomas Nationwide Transport (TNT) started its express business in Indonesia in 1979 under the name of PT Skypak International.

"Our company has now become a major player in Australia, Europe, Thailand and China. We hope that the new service would make us the market leader in Indonesia," said Moran.
