TNI's place in the legislature
From Sinar Pagi
A Jakarta newspaper recently published an article headlined "The Indonesian Military (TNI) will play a decisive role in the People's Consultative Assembly". It is interesting to note the opinion voiced by Aloys Nugroho in a discussion organized by the Institute of Religious and Philosophical Studies in Jakarta on June 17.
Aloys Nugroho said that if TNI's role in the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) is not revoked, a new Soeharto will emerge. The problem is that the military is identical with the belief in one man at the top, i.e. the TNI commander.
It is an exaggerated view. It is saddening that Aloys Nugroho's intellect does not allow him to discern between good and bad. In this reform era, we should create a situation that is conducive for various interests to realize a greater interest, namely the interest of the nation and the state.
