TNI to dispatch soldiers to W. Sumba

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Wirasakti Military Command will dispatch about 100 soldiers to help police return order to West Sumba, a senior officer said on Friday.

East Nusa Tenggara chief Col. Moeswarno Moesanip said the soldiers would be sent immediately following a rise in the number of robberies and murders in the regency during the past few weeks. The dispatch of the soldiers was at the request of West Sumba regency government, Moeswarno said.

The last serious crime occurred two weeks ago when a university student was robbed and killed by a group of men armed with machetes and spears. -- JP
