TNI, Police highest blood donors

TANGERANG: The Armed Forces (TNI) and Police blood donor club remains the most generous donor in Tangerang, according to data from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Tangerang. From 1997 to 2001, the group has donated 5,500 units of blood.

Following in the second place is the Lippo blood donor club, which has over 1,000 members, and has donated 3,825 units of blood in the same period.

No other blood donor clubs in the city have donated more than 2,000 units during the same period.

The Lippo blood donor club chairman, Fahmi Firdaus, said after the blood donation at the Siloam Gleneagles Hospital in Karawaci Thursday, that the quarterly donation drives would continue and he also hoped that such activities would encourage community awareness about donating blood.

Hundreds of people from white collar to blue collar workers, as well as students and residents at the Lippo Karawaci luxury estate joined the blood donation drive on Thursday. -- JP
