TMII to hold festival

JAKARTA (JP): Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is to hold a Wayang Golek (wooden puppet) Puppeteer Festival from Aug. 9 to Aug. 12.

Taman Mini public relations chief, Purno Wijaya, said here on Wednesday that the festival, which will be participated in by eight puppeteers from Jakarta, Bogor, Sukabumi and Purwakarta, was organized in conjunction with the celebration of the 56th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

He said that the festival was aimed at improving the puppeteers' creativity in performing the Wayang Golek, which was popular among the general public.

To open the festival, Taman Mini has organized an all-night performance of Wayang Golek by puppeteer RH Tjetjep Supriyadi, in cooperation with the Panca Kowara Group of Purwakarta, Central Java.

At the end of the festival, Taman Mini will announce three prize winners and present them with trophies and cash prizes.
