TMII launches 'Lebaran' festivities

JAKARTA: Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) will hold a series of cultural events to celebrate Idul Fitri and the New Year, a park official said last Saturday.

Spokesman Purnawidjaja Ali Basah told Antara that the events, to take place from Dec. 15 to Dec. 31, would include a bazaar, art performances, a dance parade, Islamic musical performances, and a reog Ponorogo dance performance from East Java.

He said the bazaar would feature clothing, food and homemade handicrafts from around the country.

The dance parade, which will feature dances from 26 provinces, will be held on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Sasono Langen Budaya hall.

The entire program will end with a Wayang Golek (wooden puppet) play in the West Java pavilion at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Purnawidjaja said the entrance fee for all the events was Rp 6,000 (about 67 US cents) for adults and Rp 5,000 for children. -- JP
