Tip on upgrading to Ami Pro 3.1

JAKARTA (JP): When I installed SmartSuite 3.0, my Ami Pro was also upgraded to Version 3.1. However, right after the upgrade I started having problems editing the files that I had previously created in Version 3.01. Each time I tried to activate Thesaurus, Ami Pro returned a message that it couldn't find the necessary files. So, thinking that the installation procedure was not perfectly carried out, I reinstalled the entire suite. I still got the same message.

I even erased all of the old Ami Pro's files, SmartSuite and their subdirectories and reinstalled the package afresh. It was no fun at all, as the suite came in thirty 3.5" diskettes. Still, it didn't work.

Finally, I found the answer. Apparently, Ami Pro 3.01 stored information about the thesaurus files found in its document as well. When Version 3.1 opened the files, it tried to locate the thesaurus files referred to in them that were erased during installation.

So, if you happen to have the same message on your screen as you try to activate Thesaurus, follow my seven-step solution: (1) Open the 3.01 file; (2) Highlight the entire content of the file; (3) Copy the selected content to the clipboard; (4) Close the file; (5) Create a new file; (6) Paste everything from the clip board, and (7) Save the file with the old 3.01 filename. When you're asked whether you want to replace the existing file, just click on Yes.

In the new file with the same old name, you'll no longer have difficulty accessing the thesaurus.
