Timber lost in cross-border theft

TARAKAN, East Kalimantan: Indonesian military personnel recently confiscated 75 pieces of heavy equipment owned by timber thieves operating near the border of East Kalimantan province and Sabah, Malaysia.

Antara reported that chief of the Tarakan military command, Lt Col Endro Warsito, said Friday that the heavy equipment included tractors, bulldozers, pickup trucks and cars. The area was prone to timber theft, he said. The report did not mention details of the thefts. "We have received information that the actors behind timber thefts in East Kalimantan are now in Malaysia," he said.
