Tile maker gets ISO 9002

JAKARTA (JP): Porcelain tile maker PT Intikeramik Alamasri
Industri received International Standards Organization (ISO) 9002
certification for its industrial management yesterday.

"The certification, which makes us more responsible for
improving the quality of our products, is needed to improve our
competitiveness in the international market," the company's
president, Lie Ju Tjhong, said after the presentation of the ISO
award.

PT Lloyd's Register Advisory Services Indonesia awarded the
certificate.

Lie said Intikeramik was the first Indonesian porcelain tile
company to receive such certification.

The company's profit, which rose from Rp 3.4 billion (US$1.39
million) in 1995 to Rp 7.5 billion last year, was expected to
rise to Rp 28 billion this year, he said.

He said the company had almost doubled its daily production
capacity to 22,500 square meters from 12,500 square meters last
year. (13)
