Tight security for female convicts

AMBON, Maluku: The local authorities have ruled out building separate jails for its few women convicts. Instead, they are providing tight security for them to protect them against harassment from men inmates.

Aswira Kajat, the chief of the Justice Office, said the few women convicts are in the same correctional institutions as men, but they occupy separate cells and are closely guarded, the Antara news agency reported.

The main institutions in Maluku are located in Ambon, Sanana in North Maluku and Masohi in Central Maluku. (emb)
