Tight schedules for Yogya railways

YOGYAKARTA: State railway authorities in Yogyakarta had to arrange very tight schedules on Friday following the detour of trains serving northern routes to the south.

Spokesman for the company's Yogyakarta and Central Java operation Purnomo told Antara that the rearrangement was unavoidable due to the fact that the number of trains traveling the town had doubled to 147 per day as a result of the detour.

Purnomo said that on Saturday and Sunday, the number of trains would increase to 157, meaning one every three minutes.

The shift of northern line trains to southern tracks took effect on Wednesday after a railway bridge in Comal, Pemalang, Central Java, collapsed.
