Tiger attacks increase in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Villagers are lamenting the increasing number of attacks by wild tigers (Panthera tigris) in the western part of Aceh over the past months, Antara reported.

One of the villagers, Tanthawi, said on Thursday that at least one person, identified as 25-year-old Hamidi, had died from an attack. Another, Achmad, 41, was injured.

Tanthawi said the attacks seem to have increased since the capture of a female tiger near Mt. Panteu in Pantee Purba resettlement area.

"Many people are now afraid to go to their fields to work," he said. (swe)
