Thug killed in quarrel over Rp 2,000

JAKARTA: A thug was stabbed to death by an acquaintance in the Sungai Bambu market in Papanggo, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, over Rp 2,000 (22 US cents).

The thug, Mohammad Kosim, 20, who was drunk at the time of the argument, reportedly asked his friend Eko, alias Acong, for Rp 2,000. Kosim also threatened Eko with a knife.

Eko refused to give him the money and the pair become involved in a heated quarrel.

Eko is reported to have then stabbed Kosim repeatedly.

The victim suffered severe wounds to his forehead, right eye, neck, chest, stomach, back and wrist. He died en route to the nearby Sukamulya Hospital.

"We arrested the suspect, Eko, this morning," said First Insp. Y. Seman, an officer with the North Jakarta Police.

Police sent Kosim's body to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for an autopsy, Seman said. --JP
