Three workers charged as suspects

TANGERANG: The police have charged as suspects three out of eight protesting workers who were arrested during a rally at PT Koinus Jaya Garment on Jl. Imam Bonjol, Karawaci, last week.

Tangerang police detective's deputy chief, Insp. Kustanto, said on Tuesday that there were strong indications that Luciana, 26, Sri Hayati, 26, and Siti Suryani, 23, had incited their fellow protestors to commit acts of vandalism during the rally.

The other five protestors are being required to report to the police twice a week.

PT Koinus Jaya Garment, a company that produces jackets, dismissed 250 out of its 500 workers due to declining sales, but failed to pay them adequate severance pay, the protestors claimed

The workers staged a rally at the company's factory on Nov.14 to demand their severance pay. During the protest, however, they vandalized the factory's entrance gate, fence and shoe-racks. --JP
