Three thinkers appointed to BPPT

JAKARTA: The government has announced three new senior researchers will be appointed to the prestigious Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT).

Harkali Setiyono will receive the post for his work in the use of light steel in construction, Sumaryanto for his study on biotechnology innovation for health, and Sarmidi Armin for his research on the post-harvest treatment of cacao for export.

The three will be officially installed on Tuesday at the BPPT office by the head of senior researchers council Umar Anggara Jenie in a ceremony to be attended by State Minister of Research and Technology Kusmayanto Kadiman, who also heads the BPPT.

With the new appointments there will be 27 Indonesians with the title of senior researcher, which like professorships, are awarded by the President. -- JP
