Three suspects named in attack

JAKARTA (JP): Police officially declared on Friday three suspects among the seven people arrested in connection with Wednesday's attack on the City Council building.

City Police Detectives chief Sr. Comr. Hary Montolalu said the suspects, identified as S.O. Marpaung, Pariaman Siagian and Ronald Lumbantoruan, were placed at the City Police detention center.

"The remaining four people were released because there was insufficient evidence to charge them for vandalism," Hary told reporters.

Meanwhile, dozens of the suspects' relatives rallied at the City Police headquarters on Friday, demanding the release of the suspects.

The protesters refused to talk to journalists.

Police arrested the seven people just after they, along with dozens of others who claimed to be the city administration's business associates, ransacked the council building. At least eight people, mostly on-duty civil defense officers, were injured in the mob attack. (jun)
