Three suicides in one day

YOGYAKARTA: Police here are investigating three separate suicides -- all of them women -- which occurred on Sunday.

Two of the women hung themselves while the other jumped into a well.

The first case occurred on Jl. Ngadinegaran and was discovered when Sri Sitiyatun, 36, found her sister Yuni Heriawan, 24, hanging from a tree in the front yard.

Meanwhile, Siti Mubarokah, 20, a college student who lived in Petanahan Kebumen, Central Java was found dead after hanging herself in her room, Antara reported.

The third suicide occurred in Bantul when Siti Islamiah, 12, found the body of her mother Komariah, 40, in a well.

According to Siti, Komariah had been missing since Saturday.

"I think my mother committed suicide because she felt embarrassed and hurt after some of our neighbors insulted her," she told Bantul police.(hdn)
